Personal Strengths and Weaknesses

I have many abilities and skills that contribute positively in my work environment, in my personal life, and in my Learning Team. It is much easier for me to realize my strengths and weaknesses at work then when I am at home spending time with my family. I believe this to be true because in order for me to succeed at work I must capitalize on my strengths and improve on my weaknesses. A few of my strengths I posses at work are, my ability to work independently, my ability to work well with others, my ability to pick things up quickly, and my leadership quality. While, I posses many positive strengths there is a couple of weaknesses I realize I need to improve on, such as, listening skills and time management skills.

One of my positive strengths is my ability to work independently. Last year was an interesting year for myself. I worked for a company that outsourced their entire IT department. IBM came in and was granted the contract. To help make their decision, on whom to hire, IBM held many interviews. I received a letter of employment from IBM approximately a year ago, for the duration of the contract. IBM is a company that expects you to work independently. IBM executives' assign managers to multiple contracts leaving them little time to spend which each person. One manager may manage thirty-five people that are spread across multiple counties and even states. This being said, the management team relies on their team to work independently. If I do not have the ability to work with little or no direction my time would be short lived with IBM.

Another positive strength I posses is my ability to adapted and learn new concepts quickly. With the change of employers, I encounter last year, new ideas, concepts, processes, and procedures where introduced to me. IBM did not want to hear how we used to do things they wanted to implement their ways. By having the ability to adapt and learn these new ideas, concepts, processes, and procedures allowed me receive a great first year review. Again, if I was not willing to let go the old ways and adapt to IBM ways, my review would have suffered and may have become a casualty. Not only is this true with my current employment, but when seeking new employment you must be able to adapt to new concepts, or you will have issues surviving in any profession.
