Money plays main role in both the problems mentioned in the issue. I agree with the given issue, that money should be allocated for immediate social problems rather than the research. It doesn't mean that Research is not important.Today's social problems include Illiteracy, Unemployment, poverty and etc. First of all, everyone should get rid of these problems, which helps for the present as well as the future generations. The future generation will be more benefited if the present generation is satisfied with the available resources. Moreover, we can also say that these problems are interdependent, because, if we want to diminish the poverty there should not be any unemployment problem, which depends upon the education. Thus it's not very tough to solve these problems. If we concentrate on anyone problem, automatically all problems will be solved. But when we consider the research it helps only for the future generation as well as it takes very long time to get the result.Research is also crucial. It is impossible to live in this modern world, if our predecessor wouldn't have spent enough money in research. Research should be executed in order to promote our way of living and to raise the enthusiasm among the researchers. Moreover it can find solution for many present disputable problems such as, remedy for present incurable disease. Although, If we consider a person who suffers from fever and chronic disease, it is important for him to cure the fever first and then proceeding with the treatment for the chronic disease. So it is significant to solve the immediate problems.Allocating the money wholly depends up on the Economy of the government. It suits not only for the government but also for a family. If the family is rich, then he/she will save the money for the future, otherwise he/ she will solve the immediate problems. Similarly the developing country will have to solve the immediate social problems and then allocate the money for research, but the well-developed country can allocate equal money for both research and social problems.

Do my essay on "IT IS IMPORTANT TO ALLOCATE MONEY FOR IMMEDIATE,EXISTING SOCIAL PROBLEMS THAN TO SPEND ON LONG-TERM RESEARCH THAT MIGHT HELP FUTURE GENERATION" CHEAP !

In addition, research can solve the unemployment problems. Well- developed countries can bring out the new research programs and thus can reduce the present unemployment problem that helps to develop the future generation. But it is suitable only for the people who are well educated. So lack of education is the immediate social problem and has to be solved first. In sum, by figuring out the immediate social problems, research can also be benefited. Thus Allocating money for the immediate social problems is in great need rather than the research that helps the future generation.

Could Socialism Take Over a Capitalist America?

Socialism is "a concept applied to various theories of social organization, which aim to reorganize society on the basis of cooperation rather than competition."(1) It was initially meant to abolish inequality. As a whole, the entire reform system is "utopian", or overly perfect. Socialism is basically the collection of ideals that entirely contradict all that America has run on from the beginning. Could socialism ever really replace capitalism as America's main form of government? Many experts believe capitalism may eventually evolve into socialism, but I this goes against an order that America has profited off of in many ways and and we certainly would not change.

First of all America simply would not switch, even at the most gradual pace to socialism, purely out of fear. This is mostly fear in the political spectrum. Socialism as a political force seeks the adoption of certain reforms, such as government control of production and distribution to better serve the interests of the masses, rather than the individual. Those advocationg for the reforms, demand government ownership of all of the country's natural resources for mass-benefit as well. In an economic sense it would appear that the government has an overabundance of power, which we as American's would not stand for. We set up our entire government with a system of checks and balances involving the people governed, to prevent such an occurance as that. The earliest settlers came from a situation where they had no "say" in what went on, and they knew better than to repeat a government they had just retreated from. Fear of repeating the past would be a simple enough motivation to keep us away from socialism.

America is also one of the richest nations in the world. We can dedicate this mainly to capitalism. Capitalism, much like socialism, is a social systerm. Although capitalism is the exact opposite, emphasizing individual rights rather than the rights of the general public. We've held this ideal, and many others since the beginning. Taking pride in individual freedoms, like private property and ownership. Capitalism is not only related in an economic sense. It is the idea of a free-thinking and free-acting society, running on the motto, "Man is an end in himself, and not a slave to the ends of ‘society'"(Capitalism.org) In our system we thrive off the fact that a poor laborer could become a millionaire, and climbing up the ladder of life is entirely possible. The end comes down to why we would want to fix a social system that has benefitted so many people in so many ways. It would be ludacris.

Socialism asks for "an obtainment of social equality"(home.vicnet.net). Only in a perfect society could this take place, and no society or the ideals in which they live are perfect. People living in a socialist reform will not be given that inalienable right to judge as we have, because when given the right to judge one must also be prepared to BE judged. That judgement could be based on the color of ones skin, or the content of their character. Either way would lead to inequality; for people will not all agree in their assessments. We, as Americans are priviledged to have these rights from birth, and I know we appreciate being able to persue happiness by our own means. Americans show their pride in or out of tragedy, and it is because we are given these rights as an individual that we are feel this pride. People who run as a whole are denied that pride, and that is what makes America powerful. Our pride. It would go against America's order to become a socialist nation. Furthermore, it would surely lead to our decline as a major power simply from our loss of pride. For the aforementioned reasons, I strongly feel that America will not at any pace evolve into a socialist nation. It contradicts all ideals we've held strong forever.

Youth Criminal Justice Act And The Implications For The Education SystemOn April 1, 00 the YCJA was created (Youth Criminal Justice Act) this act replaced the Young Offenders Act. The change in legislation is because the federal government

is trying to reform the Canadian youth. Most of the young people that are imprisioned is because of the distruction of and/or in relation to propety. Only 0% of young people in custody in Canada have actually committed some sort of violent offence. The incarcertion rate for youth is higher then the rate for adults. Young people tend to get longer sentences then adults do.The YCJA includes among all of its provisions a declaration of principle This declaration says that the victim should be treated with courtesy, respect and compassion they are also given an opportunity to participate and be heard. It also says that the criminal justice department system for young people should emphasize fair accountability of young people depending with the dependancy of young persons and lower level of maturity. The YCJA trys to divert more and more young people away from youth court through the introduction to extrajudicial measures. The YCJA requires police officers to consider a few of the extrajudicial measures before starting any judicial proccedings, it is up to the police at first to decide what they think is in the best interest of the young offender in the case of a offence these extrajudicial measures include taking no further action, warning the young offender; administering a caution; a referral that the young person joins a group or organization that may help in assisting the offender to not commit any more offences. But the YCJA still seeks to have the young people take responsibility for their offences. The offenders that admit to doing the crime are allocated a easier extrajudicial sanction. These sanctions may include any of the following; apologies to the victim; community service; or paying restitution if crime is property related. Most crimes occur at or have connection to the school. The victims of these crimes tend to be other students, teachers or school administrators. Therefor having the offender still in the community and attending school brings into focus new concerns. Although this may seem fair to the student on the other hand it tends to create a few problems for the educators. In Ontario however the safe schools act created in 000 introduced a youth (student) Disciplinary process quite a bit different from the YCJA. For starters there is no extrajudicial sanctions under the Ontario Legislation. Under provincial law a student who either commits a school-related offence is either presented with discipline as in a suspension or explusion. All other provincial schools come under the Federal YCJA . There is a 0% success rate when dealing with young offenders using the YCJA. However it is yet to be determined the long term effects on the education system and the individual schools involved with the offenders rehabilitation while serving their sentence. It is best to consider each case on a individual basis keeping in mind what is best for the offender, his/her school and the students that would be exposed to the youth while the offender serves his/her sentence. Keeping the balance of the greater good in all who are involved.

No, Club is not about the dialogue of an unpublished scene of The Fight, nor the introduction of a book antiglobalization in the style of the celebrated No logoby Naomi Klein. The words are part of one of the multiple messages that diverse non Governmental Organizations? Adbusters, Consumers against to war, et cetera are sending to thousands of consumers around the orb. The objective to protest against the invasion of Iraq by means of a boycott to the emblematic trade names of the United States. They would have to be worried to the high executives about the American companies front to dangerous repudio of the consumers who are beyond their borders? Or they would have to diminish the situation like a simple globalifobic protest more? Before the atmosphere of world-wide hostility front to the EU decision to not know to the Security Council of the United Nations (the UN) and to advance unilaterally on Iraq, the corporative ones have chosen to take the things in serious. In fact, the increasing diffusion of this class boicots already begins to clear the dream to him to the managers of marketing of the main American marks. According to a report of Susan Postlewaite, investigator of Advertising Age, directors of Cocaine marketing research Tail, Procter & Gamble, Xerox and McDonalds, among others, are summoning to emergency meetings to resist specially to repudio anti-American, present in the Middle East, Europe and South America. The anger level is greater to the one of other times. McDonalds now seems to be until the affected mark more according to a report published by Reuters agency, in the last weeks, demonstrators have attacked tens of restaurants in Indonesia, Korea South del, France and Spain. For the sake of fighting this tendency, McDonalds has tried to project one more a local image in potentially adverse markets. In Argentina, where because of the economic crisis already of by himself a high resentment exists towards everything what it smells of transnational Capitalism, the demonstrators placed placards in which it was written they sell happy meals to finance the war. Like answer, McDonalds published unfolded advertising in which a box of Big Mac with the form Made in Argentina was appraised, everything with the attempt to convince the Argentineans that the hamburger tax exemption contributes to the development of its nation. The antagonism goes in ascent. And it is that as indicated to Reuters agency the German to him Heiko Mueller, director of the famous German bicicletera Laughed and Mueller, the only way to intimidate to Washington is attacking the pocket of EU the North Americans only put attention when there is money of by means. For that reason, we said to our suppliers and American clients to them who we would only make businesses with them if they pronounced themselves against which his government in Iraq was doing. What so far will arrive these boicots? The world of the marks of our neighbor of the North is in danger? The executives of the affected companies try to put the things in perspective. For McDonalds, the protests do not count on a substantial importance if it is taken into account that the great majority of their 0 thousand restaurants around the world continues working normally. On the other hand, for companies like Procter & Gamble, boicots is a temporary question; in order to cross the conjuncture without problems, everything is question to maintain to the marks highly identified with EU in a low profile, while the advertising resources to marks little promoted in the public sand are canalized. The situation, nevertheless, is not for trusting. Although the certain thing feels like difficult that the thickness of the citizens of the world says to good bye to the Coca-Cola and the chipses to him, is that the government of the United States never had been so unpopular in the rest of the planet.

Moon Tiger - Denise Levertov

The Moon tiger

in the room here

it came in, it is

prowling sleekly

under and over

the twin beds

See its small head

silver smooth,

hear the pad of its

large feet. Look,

its white stripes

in the light that slid

through the jalousies

It is sniffing our

clothes, its cold nose

nudges our bodies.

THe beds are narrow

but Im coming in with you.

The title is called moon tiger, although it may not literally mean a real tiger. I believe that the author of the poem is referring to moonlight. This poem really paints a picture in the mind, when the author uses the words/phrases small head, silver smooth, large feet, white stripes, cold nose nudges. The author uses those words to paint the picture of a silver tiger, pawing around a room. What the author is trying to get through to the readers, is the way moonlight shines into a bedroom at night, and how it seems to sneak in like a tiger, quietly.

If we must die - Claude McKay

If we must die, let it not be like hogs

Hunted and penned in an inglorious spot,

While round us bark the mad and hungry dogs,

Making their mock at our accursed lot.

If we must die, O let us nobly die,

So that our precious blood may not be shed

In vain; then even the monsters we defy

Shall be constrained to honor us though dead!

O kinsmen we must meet the common foe!

Though far outnumbered let us show us brave,

And for their thousand blows deal one deathblow!

What though before us lies the open grave?

Like men well face the murderous, cowardly pack,

Pressed to the wall, dying, but fighting back!

If we must die was written to tell people to fight back. The title lets you know that there is going to be a catch to it. IF we must die, that is saying, that if we are going to die, THIS is what should happen, this is what is going to happen. In the first line, you see If we must die, let it not be like hogs, this is comparing human death to animal slaughter. McKay is trying to show that if one must die, they should die noble, and that they WILL die noble. Though far out numbered let us show us brave, this shows that even though they are outnumbered, they are not going to back down. This poem is basically saying, if you have to die, dont just die, fight back first. You see this in the example in the last two lines, Like men well face the murderous, cowardly pack, Pressed to the wall, dying, but fighting back! I think that the tone in this is inspirational, because he is trying to inspire people to stand up for yourself.

Alone - Maya Angelou

Lying, thinking

Last night

How to find my soul a home

Where water is not thirsty

And bread loaf is not stone

I came up with one thing

And I dont believe Im wrong

That nobody,

But nobody

Can make it out here alone.

Alone, all alone

Nobody, but nobody

Can make it out here alone.

There are some millionaires

With money they cant use

Their wives run round like banshees

Their children sing the blues

Theyve got expensive doctors

To cure their hearts of stone.

But nobody

No, nobody

Can make it out here alone.

Alone, all alone

Nobody, but nobody

Can make it out here alone.

Now if you listen closely

Ill tell you what I know

Storm clouds are gathering

The wind is gonna blow

The race of man is suffering

And I can hear the moan,

Cause nobody,

But nobody

Can make it out here alone.

Alone, all alone

Nobody, but nobody

Can make it out here alone.

In the title, you can definently tell that this poem is going to have a more depressing tone, but yet somewhat calm sense to it. In the first stanza, we learn that she wants a home for her soul, which I believe means, that she wants some place to be where she doesnt have to think or worry about problems. She sees people wasting their lives on things that dont matter, and she comes to the point that you cant be successful with your life

Would you agree that the creation of Israel in May 148 has been the most important event in shaping the present situation in the Arab Israeli conflict?

One cause of the current conflict between the Arabs and the Israelis is the creation of Israel in 148. There are lots of other important factors, which have contributed to this major area of dispute and hostility between the Arabs and Israelis; a dispute is still far from conciliation.

In 147 the UN discussed the future of Palestine and a decision was attained to separate the land into two states Jewish and Arab. The Jewish leader agreed with this idea but the Arabs rejected it as there were less Jews than Arabs and yet the Jews were to be given more land. Even though both sides didn't agree to the creation of Israel it went ahead. Despite having done nothing wrong, the partition left the Arabs feeling punished. They were determined that they would regain the land wrongfully taken from them. Since that day the Arabs and Jews have fought over whom the land rightfully belongs to. Source 1 shows what the creation of Israel has caused to occur in today's society. Israeli soldiers treat the body of the Palestinian man they had just murdered as a trophy. That is one example of the horrendous atrocities the creation of Israel is causing at the present.

Another cause of the conflict in the Middle East today is that both sides have strong claims to the land. The Jews believe the land belongs to them for mainly religious reasons. The Old Testament preaches that Palestine is the Jewish ‘promised land'. Their whole history revolves around Palestine and many of their religious buildings, such as The Temple Of Solomon in Jerusalem, are there. Even though, after a revolt in 15 AD, they had no homeland they still kept their pride as Jews and aimed to return to Palestine one day. Zionism increased this desire in the 1th century.

Buy cheap The creation of Israel term paper

The Muslims also believe Palestine is their homeland because their religion tells them that they are descended from Abraham's son Ismael. Additionally, the Mosque of Omar and many other important mosques are found in Jerusalem. The Arabs felt their homeland had been taken from them without any justification. Source shows what devastation is being caused by two different groups of people who have opposite, enthusiastic views and strong feelings on the predicament they face.

One of the most catastrophic and inexplicable controversy to come out of dividing the Arabs and Israelis is the Palestinian refugees. Over one and a half million live in exile, most in refugee camps. The numbers in the camps have grown due to the continual Arab exodus from Israel. The Arabs and Israelis argue about who was responsible for making the Arabs leave and what has happened to the refugees. What is undeniable though is the impact this has on the current situation. The Arabs believe that Israel caused the problem by forcing the Arabs out, whereas the Israelis are convinced it is entirely the Arabs fault and that they chose to leave. Refugees are still there today. The Arabs want to go back to their homeland, which is the only place they want to be and that is why they have stayed in refugee camps. The Jews don't want them back. Their opinion is it isnt their responsibility, it is the other Arab countries fault they remain refugee camps. The Arab refugees have nothing. Therefore they have nothing to lose and are prepared to dies for their country.

The Arabs that remained in Israel claim that ever since Israel has been created the Jews have treated them immorally making their lives unbearable. The Jews consider the Arabs to be backward people who are unworthy of any equality or justice of any kind. The Jews have used mass extermination to try to wipe out Arab culture. The Arabs are forced to learn Hebrew. They receive racial discrimination.

Order your Angela's Ashes: Parental Conflict paper at affordable prices with Live Paper Help! Conflict between parent and child has been a theme used throughout literature for hundreds of years. It can even be found in relatively recent literature such as Frank McCourt's 16 memoir entitled Angela's Ashes. In the case of Angela's Ashes, the conflict between Frank and Malachy is accompanied by Frank's understanding of his father and Malachy's love for his children.

The major cause of conflict is caused by Malachy's alcoholism. He is never employed for more than a few weeks and every penny that he receives is spent at the pub. His alcoholism eventually causes his impoverished family to go on "the dole" and even resort to begging for and stealing food. After his wife gives birth to Alphonsus, Frank's grandfather sends the family five pounds. Frank and his brothers try to stop Malachy but their efforts are futile; he spends the baby's money at the pub. When Malachy goes to find work in England, he again uses the money for "pints"; the only thing the family receives is a half-eaten box of chocolates.

One boy calls his father a drunken oul shit, (McCourt) because he does not send money from England, but Frank and her his family would never even think about speaking of Malachy in this way. Throughout the novel, we are shown that Malachy really does care for his children. We first see it in Frank's childhood where he and brother's main source of joy are their father's stories of the great Irish warrior, Cuchulain. Malachy's paternal qualities are once again seen when he eats very little to allow his children to get full. Frank understands that his father's "drink" is his only way of coping with his lost children.

Frank's fondness of his father starts very strong in the days of the Cuchulain stories. Every lost job and Friday night spent at the pub causes Frank to further lose faith in his father. Malachy's spending of the baby's money on "drink" finally puts Frank over the edge as he says to himself "it will be different now." (McCourt). Through the rest of the novel, he uses this and his fathers other actions to better himself and try to get a better life for his family.

Buy cheap Angela's Ashes: Parental Conflict term paper

Throughout his life, Frank has many parental figures that encourage him to better himself. The first role model he meets is Mr. Timoney during his stay in the hospital. He encourages Frank to read and to never stop learning. Mr. Timoney and Frank become good friends, in part because Mr. Timoney respects Frank and treats him like an adult. Later in the memoir, Frank gets a job helping Mr. Hannon carry coal. Mr. Hannon encourages Frank to work hard and get out of Limerick. Through his job, Frank and Mr. Hannon become very close and at the end of his employment, Mr. Hannon truly feels as if he has lost a son. During Malachy's absence, Pa Keating is the closest thing Frank has to a father. He even takes frank out for his first pint on his sixteenth birthday. He is also the one who finally convinces Frank to save up enough money to get out of Ireland and go to America.

I think my father is like the Holy Trinity with three people in him, the one in the morning with the paper, the one at night with the stories and the prayers, and then the one who does the bad thing and comes home with the smell of whiskey and wants us to die for Ireland. (McCourt). The aforementioned quote perfectly describes Frank's conflict with his father; he loves the father who talks to him in the morning and tell stories of great warriors, but the father that spends his baby brother's money of alcohol angers him. He spends much of his childhood which one of these people his father really is until his parental role models guide him to work hard and create a better life for himself.

You cant think about anything else but when youre going to see them again.I hope well be friends forever, together well always be. I dont think you understand just how much you mean to me. And one day when we part our ways, well think back to the past and think about how happy we are cause our friendship will always las.Friends are always friends no matter how far you have to travel back in time. If you have memories together, there is always a piece of your friendship inside your heartt.Who would have thought that a simple Hello! could have been the beginning of a wonderful friendship? This simple Hello! was all it took for Ryan Schroer and me to become great friends. I met Ryan in my biology class. He sat in the front of the class so that his motorized wheel chair wouldnt get in the way. I, however, believe that he wouldnt have gotten in the way no matter where he sat. From the first day of school, my simple Hello! and his cheerful reply were the keys to our friendship. In our sophomore year, we were in the same English class--Mr. Weinheimers English class. This year was great! Mr. Weinheimer was able to open Ryan up to even more people. The two became great friends. In fact, Im not sure who taught the other person more. They even had a comedy act that was spontaneously put together every day. (This was because Ryan was the only person that actually laughed at Mr. Weinheimers jokes.)There was a time, however, in which Ryan was not able to come to school. He had surgery on his legs and hips. They had to keep him at home for rehabilitation. His parents had to turn his body every hour in order to prevent bed sores from occurring. His legs were very scarred and he was in a great deal of pain, but if you talked to him, he would never let on that he was in pain. He hid his pain from everyone.A few weeks after our English class wrote letters to him, he was able to return to school for half of the day. Soon after this short period of time, he was able to come to school for the whole day. (What you may not understand is that this remarkable young man has cerebral palsy and has endured many an obstacle. Yet, he is able to go on living life to the fullest he is possibly able.) He knows the old saying When the going gets tough, the tough get going. to the deepest and most personal extent.

In our junior year, we found that we didnt share a single class. This was not a problem, however, we just talked a little more in the hallway during passing periods. That year seemed to fly by. I must have blinked because I missed it! The highlight of the whole year (and maybe my life) was when Ryan asked me to hold the torch runners flag that would mark the spot where Ryan would begin his Olympic torch run. When he asked me, I didnt know what to say. My first reaction was when I asked him why he didnt want someone from his family to hold it for him. He gently responded that he would be honored if I would accept this position for him. He said that the Olympic committee sent a letter saying that the person that holds the flag for him must be someone important to him. He said that I was important to him because I was the only true friend he had ever made that talked to HIM and not to his wheel chair. How could I refuse such a gracious compliment and request. On June fifth, at 106 A.M., I left early from class in order to take the flag and reach Ryans starting point early. As I walked down the sidewalk, my heart raced and my mind became a factory of questions. I kept wondering how everything was going to happen and how Ryan would respond to the huge crowd of thousands of people. On my way, I encountered Ryans parents, grandparents, and brother. They had all come to support Ryan.

When one thinks of church they most often will think of a refuge, a safe place. Everyone expects to be able to go to church and get away from their troubles and not have to worry about whether they are in danger or not . However sometimes we can be in danger in the least expected places. In the poem, "Ballad of Birmingham" written in 166 by Dudley Randall, this becomes a reality. "Randall establishes racial progress as he recounts the incident, based on a historical event of the bombing in 16 of Martin Luther King, Jr.s church by white terrorists" (Miller 1). Irony plays a big part also in the ballad showing the church as the war zone and the freedom march as the safer place to be. The poem tells the story of a woman who doesn't let her daughter go to play in town because she feels that it is too dangerous, but instead sends her to church where she feels that her daughter will be safe. The tragic irony of the story is that while the little girl is at church singing in the choir, the church is bombed and she is killed. (Sullivan ). This shows the very clear structure that the poem has. There are two key themes in this poem. The themes of the story seem to be, there is no sanctuary in an evil world, and one may face horror in the street as well as in the church (Miller 1). The idea that Randall wants to get across is that there is that when racial issues are involved there is no safe place to be. Much like traditional ballads, the tone is set with the first stanza of the poem, where the daughter says, Mother dear, may I go downtown-- Instead of out to play,--And March the streets of Birmingham--In a Freedom March Today? From these lines we can tell that a tragedy is sure to happen. The setting of the story is in the mother and daughter's home and then also at the end at the church. The speakers are the mother and daughter who speak in first person at the beginning of the poem. In the first and third stanzas the daughter speaks and in the second and fourth stanzas the mother speaks. Starting with the fifth stanza until the end, the narrator is speaking and the point of view changes to third person. Randall's audience is to all people, letting them know that we can not be safe anywhere when evil is involved. He is talking to mothers, children, Freedom March demonstrators, and bombers. He is talking to anyone that is willing to listen.

Randall does not use many rhetorical devices such as metaphors or similes in his works of literature, but he does give a few examples in this poem. An example of personification is given when he said "she clawed through the bits of glass and brick". He also uses hyperbole, which is an exaggeration, when he says "she bathed until she was rose petal sweet". (Sullivan )This whole poem is symbolic of the fact that the bombing took place in Birmingham and four black children actually died. Randall uses every day language to get his message across. He uses modern English and uses closed form poetry. The poem is metered like this; ABCB, DEFE, GHIH, JKLK, MNON, PQRQ, STUT, and VWXW. There are eight stanzas in all with total lines. The poem is written with a regular rhyme scheme and in iambic tetrameter that makes the poem sound very nursery rhyme like (Carey 4). Because of this the poem flows very well and we are able to follow it very well. I thought this poem gave an excellent description of what life must have been like for blacks during this time period. They felt like they weren't safe anywhere because of the racial protests that were going on and the bombing in Birmingham at this church proved that even more. I thought Randall did an excellent job getting his point across and allowing us to feel what the mother felt. I recommend this poem to everyone.

Revenge for the Family

In Shakespeares "Hamlet one of the main themes is the desire for revenge to redeem family honor. Prince Hamlet seeks revenge against his uncle, Claudius, for the death of his parents, especially his father. Hamlet is very curious about the cause of his fathers death and is still in mourning. Hamlet envisions the ghost of his father, and speaks to it. Hamlet finds out the truth about his fathers death, that he was murdered by Claudius. Although Hamlet is told by the "ghost" that Claudius killed his father he still wants to be positive before he takes any action. To do so hamlet decides he's going to perform a test to see if Claudius really murdered his father. The way his father was killed was King Hamlet was sleeping in the garden and someone poured poison in his ear and he was killed. Hamlet decides to have "players" put on a play for the king and queen, reenacting the king's death. While the play was taking place people were watching Claudius to see his reaction when the part of the death came along. When this part came about Claudius stood and shouted, and then he left the room. After Hamlet seeing this he was sure that Claudius had murdered his father. Hamlet decides to take action as revenge against the murderer, and to restore his family to the throne.

Later in the play, when Claudius, Hamlets uncle, marries Hamlets mother, Hamlet feels like his familys honor has been violated. He is very disgusted by his mothers decision and wants to put a stop to this marriage. Hamlet feels like his fathers kingdom has been stolen away from him by Claudius. At this point Hamlet goes insane by pretending to do all kinds of strange things. At one point he is even heard contemplating suicide. Other people look at Hamlet as if he cannot get over his fathers death, so two of his friends are brought over to try entertaining him and cheering him up. This is all part of Hamlets plans for revenge for his family.

Towards the end of the play Hamlet agrees to fight Alerts, but this contest is all just part of Claudiuss plan to kill Hamlet. Claudiuss plan was for Alerts to have an extra sharpened sword with poison on the end of it, so that he would only need to strike Hamlet to kill him. Claudius also has a back-up plan in case Hamlet wins the sword fight. The men will drink to Hamlets win, but Hamlets cup of wine will have poison in it. Hamlet and Alerts begin to fight, Hamlet wins the first match without Alerts even hitting him. The two fight again this time each losing their sword. Hamlet picks up Alertness' sword and strikes him, killing him. After Hamlet's victory the king and queen drink wine, mistakenly the queen drinks the cup of poison, she is killed instantly. Hamlet survives, and wants to seek even more revenge now that Claudius has killed both his parents. He is able to continue with his plans for revenge for his familys honor.

Now that Claudius has murdered both of Hamlet's parents, Hamlet wishes to seek revenge upon Claudius. Hamlet picks up Alertness' sword with poison on the end and chases after Claudius. Once hamlet catches him he forces him to drink the remaining wine in the poisoned cup. Claudius cries out for forgiveness while dying he is not answered and he dies there shortly. Hamlet who has been struck from the sword is also dying slowly. As he is dying he has a few last words, he forgives Alerts for his action. He also says as his last thing that he wants Fortinbras to be named king of Denmark.

Hamlet not only wished to seek revenge for his father's death but also for his families honor that had been taken from him. When the thrown was taken over by Hamlet's uncle, Claudius, he felt as his if someone was trying to get rid of his father's name. Then when his mother was killed he felt even more violated. He then killed Claudius regaining the thrown of his family. Although Hamlet died shortly there after the thrown would still be remembered as King Hamlet's, the great king, not as Claudius the murderers.

The French Revolution

The French Revolution was a turning point in Frances history. The Revolution began when King Louis XVI called the Estates General to provide money for his bankrupt government. Between 178 and 17 many kings, queens, nobles, and clergyman lost their power and status in France. Frances government changes drastically over the ten years the war was fought and it will never be the same. By the end of 1788, France was on the verge of bankruptcy. King Louis was a very indecisive and shy king. He didnt care much for politics or people. Through his carelessness Louis chose officials who stole money from him and France.

Since France had no money and a large debt to pay the king taxed the citizens harshly. The angry French grew tired of the heavy taxes and riots broke out constantly against the king. Louis summoned the General Estates to meet at the Palace of Versailles for the first time since 1614. Louis had all three estates prepare cashiers. The cashiers were notebooks listing the grievances of each estate. Many cashiers asked for reform. These reforms include freedom of speech, a regular meeting of the Estates General, and fairer taxes. The third estate and least influential was also the largest. It contained one million middle class citizens and twenty-four million laborers and working class citizens. The third estate sick of being refused by nobles and being out-voted(not in count but rank) formed the National Assembly. When their normal meeting place was locked for preparations of a royal speech the National Assembly took it as a threat. Between the ten days of June 17,178 and June 7, 178, the delegates of the assembly took the Tennis Court Oath. The oath meant that they would not dismember until a fair constitution was written up for France.

After many nobles joined the National Assembly the king had not choice but to accept them. The main reason for the French Revolution was a lack of money. when riots became to much for king Louis to handle, he called the three estates to list their grievances. The Third estate was made up of farmers, laborers, peasants, and middle class citizens.

Since the nobles and clergy didnt have to pay any land tax the members of the third estate were the ones being taxed the most. They wanted each member of the whole assembly to have a vote, but the nobles and clergy refused. The representatives from the third estate withdrew from the assembly. They met at a near-by tennis court and declared themselves the National Assembly. They took the Tennis Court Oath vowing not to disband until they had written a constitution for France. After many nobles joined, the king has to finally recognize them. Louis still tried to break up the assembly which lead to the storming of the Bastille on July 14, 178.

All of these events lead up to the start of what we today call the French Revolution. Examples The French Revolution was caused by the king not having enough money to pay off his debt and taxing the French citizens on everything they could possibly be taxed on. Some of the things taxed them on were income, land, property, crops, salt, tobacco, wine, and cider. The people even had to pay a poll tax for the privilege of being born in France.

They had to pay a tax on the money they received after selling a piece of property or land. Peasants had to pay an additional tax on sales tax. Shoe makers couldnt make shoes because the tax on leather was too expensive. The French citizens hated the tax collectors and called them, Bloodsuckers of the nation who drink the tears of the unfortunate from goblets of gold. Closing The kings irresponsibility caused him to tax the French harshly.

I think that the French Revolution is a symbol of the strength and power of the people. In the beginning the king ruled supremely and only. Through the power of the people and the French Revolution the French changed their government.

The death of Curley's wife and Lennie are shocking events. How convincing and predictable do you find the last two sections of the novel? The last two sections of the novel are what the whole story is leading up to the death of a fellow human being (Curley's wife) caused by Lennie and then finally, the death of Lennie himself. These two events are both tragic but the killing of Lennie most probably would have been impossible to avoid, and therefore the reader believes it to be realistic.Quite soon into reading the book you could take an educated guess that Lennie would die at the end of the story. Lennie is childlike in some ways in his personality, for example, at the start of the story when he is madly drinking from the pool like an animal. He is unknowingly powerful and has a very short memory.

Cheap custom writing service can write essays on Of Mice And Men

When Curley's wife comes into the story it is also rather predictable and inevitable that Lennie would either scare, harm or kill her, by accident. We know this because you find out early on in the story that that an incident similar to this had already happened. George and Lennie are running away from Weed because Lennie had frightened a girl by touching her dress. There are other clues that are preparing us for the event of Curley's wife's death. We know that Lennie cannot control his own strength. We learn this at the very beginning of the book when Lennie killed a mouse by playing with it and stroking it, just because he liked the soft feel of it's fur coat. Later in the novel he kills a puppy in the same way. So these events tell us that Lennie doesn't know his own physical power and also that he loves to stroke and touch things that he likes. Therefore, all these events are making you expect this to happen to Curley's' wife because a) a similar thing happened to a girl by Lennie,

b) she's always trying to attract Lennie's attention. The possibility of how George will kill Lennie comes about on the first night at the ranch. Candy has an old dog that the other men, Carlson in particular, say smells. Carlson offers to shoot the dog in the back of its head to put it out of its misery. Candy is weary but finally agrees. Carlson explains that the dog won't feel a thing and will be over in a split second.Carlson explains (part three) "If you was to take him out and shoot him right in the back of the head, right there, why he'd never know what hit him." This is a major clue to the killing of Lennie. The fact that the gun is so easily available helps towards the shooting of Lennie. Carlson's gun is brought to the reader's attention when Carlson uses it to kill Candy's dog. So throughout this section George learns that there is an available gun and also a detailed technique of shooting an animal painlessly.George and Lennie have a dream of buying a farm together so they can be independent. It could be argued that the ending is too artificial and is just designed for the effect rather than being true to life. I do not agree with this due to all these leading up points in the first four sections of the novel. Steinbeck must have planned from the start that Lennie would die, otherwise he wouldn't have added in the clues such as the killing of Candy's dog. So, there is a purpose for the dog in the first place, as there is a purpose for George and Lennie running away from Weed. When Curley's wife has been found dead George is desperate to find Lennie so he can kill him himself. George acknowledged what Candy had said about regretting not killing his dog himself. George doesn't want Curley to find him first because he will shoot him in the guts where it will hurt Lennie. He wants Lennie to die as happy and as calm as possible. This shows that Candy's regrets are also vital and have an impact on the final scene in the book. In conclusion I do find that the way the story is developed, although predictable, is an effective way of convincing the reader that the shocking events that take place are realistic in the context of the situation.

Order your AFRICA AND THE SLAVE TRADE paper at affordable prices with cheap custom writing service! From the 17th century until the 1th century, almost twelve million Africans were forced and taken to the Americas to be sold and used to terrible slave owners for strenuous work. In addition to affecting the governments of Africa, the slave trade also influenced governments of the slave traders' countries. As well as the desire for prosperity, the slave trades of many countries were strongly fueled by the concept of racism. These traders developed a well-organized course, which was a big part in the shipping and selling of slaves from the African coast to the New World, called ‘The Middle Passage.' Even after Britain abolished it in 1807, slave trading still lingered illegally for the following many years. And regardless of how inhumane it may have seemed, rationalizations for selling, controlling and beating another human being were as absurd and ridiculous as the act itself.

During the Age of Exploration, many European countries strived to expand their empires and political success to the Americas. Yet, they lacked one thing to maintain a strong colonya work force. After many of the Indians were plagued with the deadly diseases brought by the Europeans, the colonists needed to find new laborers. Unlike many of the Europeans, who were unfit to work in America's harsh conditions and withstand the tropical diseases, Africans, on the other hand, were excellent workers. Mostly the areas of the Africa's coasts were affected by this movement of trading. Coastal societies and merchants of the high classes profited mostly, though the smaller classes suffered quite a bit due to the lack of their security and power.

Despite the hardships the African slaves endured, Africa's population did not suffer. Some societies lost many people to the slave traders, though the slave trading reign was over a period of five centuries, making it easier for the population to survive. Unlike the Indians, the Europeans didn't care too much for changing the African culture; most of them didn't even travel to the inner area of Africa. This continent was one of the many that stayed unknown at the time. The Europeans, as they did with the Indians, knew of their intense numerical superiority over the Africans, treating them no better than animals. The slaves endured terrible conditions not only by their masters in the New World, but they lived in these cruel environments on the ships to their ‘new home.'

The middle passage was probably the worst of the experience as a slave. Slave ships packed Africans into awful quarters below the ship decks. To keep from rebelling or choosing the suicidal fate of jumping over board, men, women and children were chained together. They could not move and they could not breathe, and for this, many of them died within the first few days of the excursions. Slaves were given spoiled food and unclean water, and sometimes none at all. The simplicity of the European's idea of stealing humans from their homeland and moving them like goods in cargo defy all aspects of morality.

After many published books and pamphlets described how evil slavery was, many city states began to abolish slavery. Britain abolished it in 1807, then the United States in 1808. Despite these laws, slavery still continued in Southern states for many years thereafter. Finally in 1870 slavery was abolished in nearly every portion of the Americas, ending the Atlantic trade. After the many hundreds of years dealing with all the acts of heartache, pain, cruelty, unfairness and inhumanity towards the slaves, we look back on the mistakes and are making an effort to not have history repeat itself. The worst of it is that even after all this time, racism; the strongest encouragement to the slave trade, still lingers in our society today. This problem is a long and tedious progression that affects our culture the most, but never seems to go away.

The Brave New World Is it already upon us?

Huxleys vision of the future, portrayed in the novel Brave New World, holds many similarities to America's present day society. Huxleys vision was a vision of a trivial society, filled with self-pleasure and ignorance. In society today, knowledge is no longer praised as much as it has been in past generations. This has caused a scarcity in the willingness to learn. Also, mind-altering substances have become more and more common as today's technology advances. These drugs allow society to escape from the problems of life instead of dealing with reality. Almost everywhere you look, such as books, magazines, TV, radio, advertisements, etc., you will generally find at least one mention of sexuality. This has resulted in society slowly losing its morals. It almost seems as if Huxley's ideas of the "New World" were not as far fetched, as they had seemed when he had written the book.

In today's society, brawn is often praised a great deal more than brains. In past cultures intellect was cherished, praised, and honored. However, in present time our most honored members of society are the athletes, models, and entertainers. Although intellect is what keeps the world turning, philosophers, scientists, and innovators are rarely as publicized, praised, or even known as well as a handsome athlete or a "perfect body." Due to this lack of admiration for intelligence, many children are no longer inspired to learn from a book or teacher. Their dreams consist of winning the World Series or being a movie or pop star. This depravation of learning has had a negative effect on societys intelligence; many children are becoming ignorant and dumb. Just as Huxley portrayed in Brave New World, society as a whole is slowly becoming more and more ignorant. If this pattern continues, Huxleys vision may just become correct, and our society will be turned into a mass of stupidity.

Since the turn of the 60s drugs have become available just about anywhere to anyone. Drugs are widely available and can usually be obtained rather easily by a doctor, nurse, pharmacist, or on the streets. This increase in drug usage parallels the use of Soma in the Brave New World. Soma was a pill the masses of the New World depended upon to take them away on "holiday." Just like many people of today's society, instead of facing reality, they choose to chase their dilemmas away with a pill, liquid, or powder. Although soma is not a common drug of present time, other similar substances run rampant. Huxleys vision of drug usage is slowly becoming a reality as a quiet majority of our society continues their dependence on drugs.

Face it, Sex has become an important aspect of American Society. It is seen almost everywhere. Advertisers use it to sell products, television shows use it to acquire ratings, and even professional entertainers use it to gain admiration. With sex being displayed everywhere in our society, people feel greater urges to indulge in sexual pleasures. Divorce rates have risen to an all time high, in America, over the past few decades. Many divorces are due to adultery or the fulfillment of lust. Just as in the Brave New World, promiscuity has become a "normal" aspect of society. In today's society there is no telling how many sexual encounters your partner has been apart of. Although Huxleys vision incorporated the idea of free love, which is not expressed today, and was a disease free atmosphere, unlike our world, the principle he envisioned is slowly becoming a reality. Slowly, society is losing its morals and gradually becoming one big "orgy porgy."

To conclude, Huxleys vision of the future has become sort of a reality. Although the present day is not exactly how Huxley had envisioned it, it seems as if many of the attitudes of the Brave New World have already slowly become what are classified as normal or even acceptable. Just as in Huxley's novel, men have turned to material/ shallow forms of glorifying the body instead of the mind, by praising brawn over brain, depending upon drugs, and sexual promiscuity.

When investigating the three sectors of the American economy one is able to see that the consumer, business owner, and government aspects of the economy all differ very heavily. Each position plays a different role in the functioning economy and with the loss of one certain position, there would be no functioning economy. While conducting an interview with three local representatives of the three sectors of the economy one is able to see how each party thrives off the other.

As a consumer, there are many factors that determine how useful that consumer will be to the economy. If the consumer is a member of the working class, business will benefit by obtaining that hard working citizen that will drive their business further, and the government will thrive in the income taxes paid by the working consumer and business. If the consumer is not of the working class and is in need of government assistance, the government compensates for the money lost in helping those unable to provide the necessary means of survival in taxing consumers and businesses. One thing the consumer, business owner, and government official all have in common is the agreed factor of the United States economy losing world power to East Asian nations such as China and Japan. All three interviewees expressed concern for the industrial production substandard and NAFTA hurting the American economy. One may find it interesting to see three different viewpoints on education in America. The consumer of the working class and the government official seemed to believe that education was the most crucial part of our nation's future while the business owner thought is wasn't as important as opening up the job market or lowering taxes. All three interviewees agreed that the nation's defense system was also a crucial part in preserving our economy. A surprising finding was the government officials reaction to government assisted programming. Concerns were expressed for the abuse of the program and not enough regulation of assistance especially in New York State. New York provides 6 various welfare programs, all of which require different standards to obtain assistance, while most states offer only 1 programs. Therefore, it is extremely easy for someone truly unqualified for welfare to obtain some sort of public assistance in New York State. This leads to severe abuse of the system, which increases taxes for the consumer and business owner. It has even been found that many people who do not qualify for public assistance in a state outside of New York will move into New York State so they are able to receive help from the government. All three interviewees agreed that the American economy would be in deficit the next fiscal year due to the Bush Administration's tax increase and the current Iraqi conflict. Many of the important issues facing each the consumer, business owner, and government official was somewhat similar. Lowering taxes, creating jobs, and education were the most popular tasks for the American economy to attempt.

It is very obvious the vital need for all three sectors of the American economy. Without one branch, the other two would have a much more difficult time in functioning properly. After conducting the interviews, one is able to learn how opinions are formed on certain economic programs just through one's station in life, their experience in the working field, and personal beliefs. One may find it typical that the business owner found education to be less crucial than opening up the job market because that is his or her best means of economic surplus. Speaking with true representative personalities of the American economy is truly eye opening. There is not better way to experience first handedly how necessary and crucial it is for the consumer, business owner, and government official to work together for the economy to run smoothly.

Alistair MacLeod's "To Every Thing There Is a Season" is an exemplary illustration of an initiation or coming of age story. MacLeod effectively portrays the confusing feelings that accompany the narrator's sudden and abrupt transition from the magical world of being a child into the harsher reality of adulthood. MacLeod uses an extraordinary amount of symbols and imagery to depict this.

The story begins with an introduction to an eleven-year-old boy, caught between being a child and becoming an adult. His childlike innocence is fading. MacLeod uses the symbol of snowflakes to illustrate the pureness of the child. "The large flakes were soft and new then and almost generous, and the earth to which they fell was still warm . . . they disappeared at the moment of contact" (MacLeod, 0-10). "When we turned to leave, it fell upon our footprints, and as the night wore on obliterated them and all the records of our movements" (MacLeod, 10). The disappearance of the snowflakes and footprints represents the fading of his innocence. Just as the snowflakes disappeared, his innocence is also disappearing as he moves closer to becoming an adult. MacLeod also uses the image of the children trick-or-treating to depict the innocence within the boy. "We carried out pillowcases from house to house, knocking on doors to become silhouettes in the light thrown out from kitchens (white pillowcases held out by whitened forms)" (MacLeod, 10). The "white pillowcases" and "whitened forms" represent the child's innocence.

A major symbol of the narrator's childhood, is Santa Claus and the narrator's belief in him. "I am troubled myself about the nature of Santa Claus and I am trying to hang on to him in any way that I can. It is true that at my age I no longer really believe in him, yet I have hoped in all his possibilities as fiercely as I can . . . " (MacLeod, 10). The narrator is struggling with his belief in Santa Claus. He wants to believe in him still, but at his age, he feels that he shouldn't. ". . . I seek sanctuary and reinforcement even in an ignorance I know I dare not trust" (MacLeod, 11). His belief in Santa Claus helps him face the hardships in life, like his father's illness and his brother being so far away. His father tells him to "hang on to the good things in our lives as long as we are able." (MacLeod, 11). So he hangs onto his belief of Santa.

The image of the ocean beginning to freeze over represents the commencing of the boy's transition into becoming an adult. "The ocean is flat and calm and along the coast, in the scooped-out coves, has turned to an icy slush" (MacLeod, 1). The water has not yet completely frozenly, symbolizing that he is not yet left his childhood completely behind him. "The clothes my mother hangs on the line are frozen almost instantly . . ." (MacLeod, 1). This again illustrates the boy's transition from a child (the wet clothes) to an adult (the frozen clothes).

When the narrator's older brother comes home for Christmas, the boy hopes that he can be a child again, and that his brother ". . . will be happy and strong and confident for us all" (MacLeod, 14). Unknown to him, his time as a child is now limited, as he will soon find out the truth about Santa Claus (the one thing that still holds him in the world of a child) and enter the world of an adult. "The boxes are filled with gifts neatly wrapped and bearing tags. The ones for my younger brothers say "from Santa Claus" but mine are not among them any more, as I know with certainty they will never be again" (MacLeod, 17). He knows the truth about Santa Claus now and has finally completed the transition from a child to an adult.

Alistair MacLeod uses the powerful effect of imagery and symbols to exemplify the boy's transition from a child to an adult. This development in the narrator makes "To Every Thing There Is a Season" a perfect example of an initiation or coming of age story. MacLeod, Alistair. "To Every Thing There Is a Season." Island The Collected Short Stories of Alistair MacLeod. Toronto McClelland & Stewart, 000. 0-17.

The large cast of characters in Hellers Catch- is what makes the novel so memorable. The experience of each character makes the catch more believable to the reader. Each character symbolizes a different attitude and reaction to the system in which he is trapped. Oftentimes, the characters are stereotypes rather than actual individuals. There is no obvious division in intelligence between the authority characters and those governed by the authority. Milo Minderbinder, Colonel Cathcart, and General Peckem are all excellent representatives of the military bureaucracy. Hellers portrayal of these characters makes a solidified statement about the way the army works. These characters do not see the men under their command as human beings, but as tools to further their careers. Milo uses his manipulative powers to improve his syndicate and his personal wealth. Pearson notes,...by the time his[Milos] activities have taken over Europe and North Africa in one vast syndicate and he has bombed his own men, he has become little more than a personification of greed(77). Milos tactics are often outrageous, and they even endanger the physical and emotional well-being of his fellow soldiers. According to one critic, For Milo, contract, and the entire economic structure and the ethical system that it embodies and represents, is more sacred than human life(Frank 66).

Colonel Cathcart also uses his troops, but for different purposes. Cathcarts scheme involves manipulating his soldiers so as to advance his own rank. Like Milo, Cathcart has no qualms about placing his mens lives in danger. In fact, solely to impress his superiors, he purposely volunteers his men for the most dangerous missions. Constantly raising the number of required missions his men have to fly, he perpetuates the catch. Another character more concerned with upholding the appearance of order than with actually doing his job is General Peckem. He entertains himself by placing other officers at odds with each other and is representative of the stupidity in the military hierarchy. The personification of Hellers attitudes in his characters strengthens his dissent for the bureaucracy. The characters governed by the military represent another of Hellers perspectives on war. These characters are truly trapped in the system. Each character has a different mechanism for coping with the horror. Havermeyer takes out his aggression on helpless field mice at might. McWatt dangerously buzzes tents and actually tries to get himself shot down. Flume retreats to the woods to hide from dangers he cannot cope with. Hungry Joes fears are magnified in horrible recurring nightmares. For these characters, insanity is truly the only sane response to an insane situation. Yossarian epitomizes the character who rebels against the system. Yossarian tries as hard as he can to control his own fate. His most important goal is to simply keep himself alive. He attempts to keep out of combat as much as possible, even refusing to go. He relates to and sympathizes with his fellow soldiers. Yossarian believes in the importance of the individual human life, Catch- did not exist, he was positive of that, but it made no difference. What did matter is that everyone thought it existed, and that was much worse...(Heller 410). He constantly tries to maintain his individuality in the face of an impersonal war machine. As rated by one critic, Yossarian eventually ends up as a survivor with integrity by becoming an outsider and renouncing the values and potential rewards of the bureaucracy(Mullican 1). His paranoia separates him from the rest of the world. It turns him into a loner who has to overcome the insanity or be engulfed by it. Through characterization Heller generates a specific point. Each character serves to reiterate Hellers feelings on war, capitalism, and the military itself. The attitudes that the characters personify make Catch- both poignant and memorable
