Book Review"My Side of the Mountain" is about a young boy, Sam Gribley, who is sick of New York City life and decides to move to the Catskills Mountains where his great-grandfather owned some land years earlier. The story takes place in the Catskills Mountains in New York State and covers the changing seasons. Sam gets to the mountain during the summer, and we follow him as summer turns to fall, then winter, spring and back to summer again. Each season brings new challenges for Sam.Sam lives alone in the woods for over a year. He makes a house in a very large old growth tree. He learns how to make a fire and what kinds of foods are safe to eat. He also learns how to fish and develops skills to keep him alive. He is a boy who wants to live with nature and not harm it. Sam uses only what he needs to survive and doesn't waste anything. For example, if his clothing needs replacing, he uses the skins of the animals he killed for food.
